The conversion of this 1960's Sunday School building into a daycare required reorganization of the interior to meet the requirements of the Day Nurseries Act. The interior work included a new kitchen, office, washrooms, staff and activity rooms requiring new plumbing, electrical, HVAC and fire systems. Fifty percent of the exterior walls were replaced with an upgraded building envelope including insulation and energy-efficient windows.

We emphasized the importance of maintaining large areas of windows for natural light and ventilation. Studies have shown that children learn better in rooms filled with daylight and views out to trees. The glazing for the replacement windows was selected to provide protection against the summer sun and reflect interior heat during the winter yet still provide the natural spectrum of light.
